17th July - 21st July (Week 10)

The day started with a buzz of excitement as the students gathered on the sports field. Their eyes shone with anticipation. Alongside me, several other teachers from different departments were also participating in the event. The events were divided into two sections; field events and races. Field events were conducted on 17th July (Monday), and races were on 18th July (Tuesday). The field events included the long jump, shot put, and various fun relay games, while the races featured sprints and longer distance runs. Each event had different age categories, ensuring that every student had a chance to participate.

On 17th July (Monday), I was happy to be picked to be a judge for the discus throw. Lucky for me, I wasn't the only teacher with this duty. The area for throwing the discus with all their strength was fun. It was inspiring to see their hard work and how much better they got with each throw. Some students shocked us with their natural skills, while others had trouble getting their feet on the ground. But every time they tried, they got cheers and support, which made them want to do their best. We had a closing ceremony with all the students involved in field events.

On the next day, 18th July (Tuesday), I was involved with racing events and was chosen to be the final judge for all racing events. As the final judge, it would be up to me to decide who won and ensure each race's rules were followed. As the students prepared to show off their speed and skill on the track, I could feel their joy and anticipation. On the day of the races, I would be at the finish line with a sheet to write down the winner's name. The air would be excited during the races as the students ran fast and pushed themselves to do their best. The praise and encouragement would help them feel good about themselves and give them a sense of success, no matter how the race turned out.

Even though it was a public holiday on 19th July (Wednesday), I still had to go to school to train the Hakka competition participants. The Hakka competition starts getting ready weeks before the sports day. As the trainer, it's my job to teach the students the dance's complexities, its origins, and the cultural significance of each move. This helps the students learn the dance and makes them more respectful of Maori culture.

Sports day rehearsals are held for two days, namely on the 20th of July (Thursday) and the 21st of July (Friday). I'm not involved with the rehearsal on Thursday. However, I was in the physics lab with two other teachers, Pn. Hafizah and Pn. Laili helped some students prepare parade decorations for Hang Jebat sports house.

For the rehearsal on Friday, the Hakka participants were involved. Therefore, I must be on the field and monitor the Hang Jebat sports house students involved in the competition.

The long-awaited day arrived. The Sports Day Tournament was held on 23rd July at SMK Cochrane Perkasa's football field. The weather that day was very hot. However, Hakka Hang Jebat contestants managed to grab first place in the competition. I am very satisfied because the hard work that I and the participants went through finally paid off.
