15th May - 19th May (Week 1)
Hello, new readers! Again, I am Nur Athirah Amni binti Mohd Zulkefli or your favourite writer, Yahni. My journey at SK Datok Keramat 1 ended 2 years ago. Now, I'm currently at SMK Cochrane Perkasa. Why I'm here? Same situation but in a different place. To complete my study, I have to undergo a 5 months practicum in school. Since I am currently on my degree, I have to experience my internship at a secondary school. Hence, I'm at SMK Cochrane Perkasa to complete my bachelor's assessment.
As stated in the letter from Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia (KPM) and Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM), 5 names will undergo their practicum at SMK Cochrane Perkasa. During our first visit to SMKCP, the Penolong Kanan, Datin Norsiah, split us into 2 sessions. The person will teach during the morning session are me, Abyana and Fazleen. Meanwhile, the other 2 people, Athifah and Nabilah, will teach during the evening session.
On 15th May, I, Abyana and Fazleen went to SMKCP to report for duty. I was super nervous because it isn't primary school anymore, and we all know how advanced kids are nowadays. Our name was also mentioned during the assembly, and all the students were excited to see us. I would be excited too to meet a new teacher during my day in secondary school.
After the assembly, we went to the office to meet Penolong Kanan Bahasa, Mrs Silvy. She was very friendly and helpful. Mrs Silvy briefed us about the student's proficiency level, and she encouraged us to create a lot of English activities for the students to improve their speaking and reading skills. Hence, she introduced us to Ketua Panitia Bahasa Inggeris to guide us to the teachers' room and throughout our time here. She assigned us a mentor when we arrived at the teacher's room. My mentor is Puan Raihana binti Othman. Instead of being an English teacher, she is also the Head of Discipline Teacher. That is why the students fear her and will listen to her. In addition, Puan Raihana is also a very helpful mentor. She gave me her schedule on my first day here. Not only that, but she also let me borrow her textbook so that I could teach the students easily.
Our first day was so hectic, but I enjoyed my day here.
Everything was normal on our second day at SMK Cochrane Perkasa. However, our third day here was a new experience for me and my friends. The school organised a Rancangan Intergrasi Murid Untuk Perpaduan (RIMUP), Majlis Sambutan Hari Raya Aidilfitri dan Hari Guru.
I was so excited because it was the first time I received 'Happy Teacher's Day wishes, but not only that, I also received a few gifts from the students. Even though I was just 3 days here, the students already appreciated my existence there.
Moreover, I had been assigned to be a relief teacher during the occasion. Due to the hot weather, Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia (KPM) disallowed open-air events. So, to celebrate the festival, each class have to prepare their own food, and they are allowed to go beraya to their friends' classes. I was paired with Puan Liza to care for a form 4 class, 4 Fokus. They were so happy that they could celebrate the event with their friends, and not to forget, they were so excited that I would be in charge of their class during that day.
We enjoyed the event very much; it would be the most special experience for me and my friends. It was our first week here, and this welcoming behaviour from all students and teachers made me excited to be involved more during the school's occasion. Due to that reason, I want to participate in this kind of occasion with the teachers and students of SMK Cochrane Perkasa. My upcoming days here will surprise me even more.
